A muzsikus, az építész és a kotta

Amikor zeneszerző és szövegíró, egyebek mellett a Take That, a McFly és az Incognito zenekarokkal együttműködő Jamie Norton úgy döntött, hogy átalakítja kétszintes, London északi, iparias jellegű részén található otthonát, csupán néhány formai elképzelése volt. Talán véletlen, hogy a tervezést és megvalósítást földijére, a londoni Atmos Studiót igazgató Alex Haw-ra bízta? (more…)

Aldeburgh Music by Haworth Tompkins

Posted in 03. Építészet by Hellodesign on 2009. december 18. péntek

Aldeburgh Music’s new creative campus at Snape Maltings opened to the public on May 9th. The project, part of a phased development of grade 2 listed 19th century maltings buildings at the edge of the Suffolk marshes, brings a range of derelict granaries and kilns into use as rehearsal and occasional public performance spaces grouped around a communal foyer. The centrepiece of the project is a new build orchestral rehearsal room, the Britten Studio, designed to complement the nearby concert hall (by Arup Associates, completed in 1970). The rehearsal room incorporates retractable seating for 350, enabling it to be used as a public venue.  A second space, the Jerwood Kiln Studio, was converted from a derelict kiln and can also accommodate public performances when required.  The central foyer and technical get in was formed from an existing granary sandwiched between older structures, its eccentric timber roof adapted and a new concrete mezzanine installed.

From teleport fridges to flying water catchers to robotic greenhouses on Mars, Electrolux announces this year’s top eight Design Lab finalists in its global competition themed “Designs for the next 90 years”.

The eight finalists will compete for first place in Electrolux Design Lab ’09 finals in London on September 24, 2009, at 100% Design London, the UK’s leading architecture and design event.

A jury of internationally-recognized designers will judge the entries and select a winner. The jury includes Nipa Doshi, furniture designer and co-founder of Doshi Levien design studio, David Fisher, Design Director of internationally renowned product design consultancy Seymourpowell, Marisol Manso Cortina, Manager of the Color Design Group at Nissan Design Europe, and Henrik Otto, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Electrolux.

For Design Lab’s seventh edition, Electrolux invited undergraduate and graduate industrial design students to send in their home appliance ideas for the next 90 years, in honor of the Electrolux 90-year anniversary. The brief was to create thoughtfully-designed products that will shape how people prepare and store food, wash clothes, and do dishes over the next nine decades. This year over 900 entries were submitted from students in more 50 countries.

Bridge From Recycled Grids by Aristide Antonas

The new construction for the city bridge is constituted by recycled grid surfaces. Most of them can be provided by the city’s equipment; the same suppliers that produce the London Underground grids of the city are called to produce some new pieces while some other existing grids are recycled. The structure is organized by frames that can receive and support common grid surfaces. Many of the places provided by the proposal are open-air places and semi-opened ones. The horizontal surfaces and some vertical ones are closed by a “second” glass layer if this is needed. An open air market (conceived as a continuation of the premier food market in London, Borough Market, located very close to the bridge), including except its market spots, restaurants and coffee shops, as the Borough Market itself, is proposed for the level of the bridge’s deck . Expanded to the upper floors we find gallery spaces, projection rooms and multiple show rooms. Some offices can also be organized in some parts of the building. The pier is also designed as a grid structure.
