Blueprint magazine issue #282
This month’s cover story is the exclusive, world-first publication of Ron Arad’s Design Museum for Holon, Israel. It is a significant time for Arad: his first US retrospective opens at MoMA in New York in September, and the Design Museum, his first major building, is located near Tel Aviv, where he grew up. Lead by Asa Bruno, the new architectural department of Arad’s office played with new construction techniques and materials, notably an innovative coating for Cor-Ten steel. The dramatic design departs from the region’s modernist heritage with a form rivalling Frank Gehry’s Guggenheim museum in Bilbao: Tim Abrahams reports.
